About LA SELECTION de Joel Robuchon
Have you ever had the world’s best tea? The last tea loved by the late Joël Robuchon was truly the world’s finest. His encounter with Yame Dentou Hon Gyokuro took place in 2017.
The great chef, known as the king of French cuisine, was actually known to dislike the bitterness of Japanese tea. However, after drinking Yame Dentou Hon Gyokuro, he simply said, "This is the world's best tea." It was such an extraordinary experience that it was even chosen for pairing at Robuchon's restaurant in New York.
Even today, the fame of Robuchon restaurants around the world remains unchanged. They continue to earn the respect of industry professionals and delight many gourmet food lovers worldwide.
In honor of the late Joël Robuchon’s final love for Yame Dentou Hon Gyokuro, we have decided to offer it as a special limited edition, allowing Robuchon fans, food enthusiasts, and those who appreciate authenticity and quality to experience this remarkable tea.
DESCRIPTION
The gyokuro used in this bottled tea belongs to the highest-grade category of Japanese tea due to its labor-intensive production process. Among them, Yame Dentou Hon Gyokuro is the only gyokuro to hold the GI (Geographical Indication) certification, granted by the Japanese government to protect the connection between a product and its region.
Furthermore, it has dominated the National Tea Competition, winning the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Award for an unprecedented 21 consecutive years in both the Gyokuro Producer and Gyokuro Production Region categories—solidifying its status as Japan’s ultimate premium tea.
Yame Dentou Hon Gyokuro is produced using traditional techniques that involve allowing the tea branches to grow naturally, shading them with handmade straw racks, and, in the final step, hand-picking only the top two leaves.
There are many types of gyokuro in Japan, but Yame Dentou Hon Gyokuro is a miraculous tea that can only be produced in Yame, a region located in the deep mountains of southern Fukuoka Prefecture, Kyushu, which offers the ideal conditions for agriculture. It is a rare and exceptional tea, perfect for savoring on special occasions or with cherished loved ones.
